Claudio Argentiero da quasi trent’anni si occupa di fotografia. Il suo percorso si snoda tra lavori su committenza e ricerca personale. È da sempre interessato alla documentazione del territorio e ai mutamenti avvenuti nel tempo, legati al decadimento dell’industria manifatturiera e alla trasformazione del paesaggio. Dal 1988 cura e organizza mostre ed eventi fotografici collaborando attivamente con Enti statali e privati in Italia e all’estero. Progetta archivi con la finalità di raccogliere fotografie del passato e del presente, da divulgare e tutelare per una memoria collettiva. È ideatore e curatore del Festival Fotografico Europeo giunto alla sua 9^edizione e di alcune rassegne annuali, tra cui quelle organizzate, da quasi vent’anni, presso la storica Villa Pomini di Castellanza (VA), luogo simbolo per la
fotografia. Ama il b/n, in particolare l’infrarosso che sviluppa e stampa personalmente, sperimentando le antiche procedure in camera oscura e le più moderne tecnologie digitali di stampa fine art, ottenendo la certificazione da Epson. Ha esposto in importanti spazi in Italia e all’estero, ama profondamente Arles (Francia), tempio della fotografia mondiale, dove è presente in mostra ininterrottamente dal 2005 ad oggi in contemporanea ai RIP, realizzando, con altri autori, libri sulla cittadina francese. È presente al Carrousel du Louvre di Parigi nell’ambito di Fotofever dal 2015. Ha al suo attivo oltre 30 libri, e nuovi sono in fase di realizzazione per il 2019. Presente a PHOTO PECHINO dal 2017 con mostre personali e d’archivio. Apprezzamenti significativi sono giunti per la pubblicazione del libro “Incontrando Milano”. Due autori, due stili, due epoche (2014). Un volume nato dalla determinazione dei due autori, Virgilio Carnisio e Claudio Argentiero, appartenenti a due generazioni differenti, ma complementari per lo sguardo su Milano. Recente la sua ricerca sul connubio letteratura e fotografia negli archivi di due intellettuali, Giovanni Verga e Luigi Capuana scrittori veristi. Ripercorrendo la fotografia di fine Ottocento e le sperimentazioni degli albori riconducibili ai due letterati, Argentiero ha indagato la Sicilia di oggi, accompagnato da pagine di letteratura contemporanea affidate alla nota scrittrice Silvana Grasso. Ne è scaturito il volume “Verga Capuana Argentiero. Scritture di luce. Letteratura e fotografia nella Sicilia di ieri e di oggi”, gradito al
pubblico e agli specialisti. Nelle sue corde l’interesse per il territorio che non fa clamore, ambito da indagare e rivelare attraverso sguardi personali che riportano il quotidiano alla poetica delle piccole cose. Questo il senso della sfida lanciata nel volume “Olgiate Olona, sguardi contemporanei di luce” (2019) dove le immagini dialogano con la memoria, parlano del genius loci, delle tradizioni e delle identità. È ideatore e Presidente dell’Archivio Fotografico Italiano, per il quale cura progetti a livello europeo, oltre ad essere photoeditor dei libri da collezione della collana d’autore Afi. Sue immagini fanno parte di collezioni pubbliche private, italiane e straniere.
Claudio Argentiero has been involved in photography for almost thirty years. His path unfolds between commissioned works and personal research. He has always been interested in the documentation of the territory and the changes that have occurred
over time, linked to the decay of the manufacturing industry and the transformation of the landscape. Since 1988 he has curated and organized photographic exhibitions and events, actively collaborating with state and private bodies in Italy and abroad. He
designs archives with the aim of collecting photographs of the past and present, to be disseminated and protected for a collective memory. He is the creator and curator of the European Photographic Festival now in its 9th edition and of some annual exhibitions, including those organized for almost twenty years at the historic Villa
Pomini in Castellanza (VA), a symbolic place for photography. He loves black and white, in particular infrared which he develops and prints personally, experimenting with ancient darkroom procedures and the most modern digital fine art printing technologies, obtaining certification from Epson. He has exhibited in important spaces
in Italy and abroad, he deeply loves Arles (France), the temple of world photography, where he has been on display continuously from 2005 to today at the same time as the RIPs, creating, with other authors, books on the French town. He has been present at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris as part of Fotofever since 2015. He has
over 30 books to his credit, and new ones are being created for 2019. Present at PHOTO BEIJING since 2017 with personal and archive exhibitions. Significant appreciation was received for the publication of the book “Incontrando Milano”. Two authors, two styles, two eras (2014). A volume born from the determination of the
two authors, Virgilio Carnisio and Claudio Argentiero, belonging to two different generations, but complementary in their view of Milan. His recent research on the combination of literature and photography in the archives of two intellectuals, Giovanni Verga and Luigi Capuana, realist writers. Retracing the photography of the
late nineteenth century and the early experiments attributable to the two men of letters, Argentiero investigated today’s Sicily, accompanied by pages of contemporary literature entrusted to the well-known writer Silvana Grasso. The volume “Verga Capuana Argentiero. Writings of light. Literature and photography in
the Sicily of yesterday and today”, appreciated by the public and specialists. In its strings the interest for the territory that does not make a fuss, an area to be investigated and revealed through personal glances that bring everyday life back to the poetics of small things. This is the meaning of the challenge launched in the
volume “Olgiate Olona, contemporary glances of light” (2019) where the images dialogue with memory, speak of the genius loci, of traditions and identities. He is the creator and President of the Italian Photographic Archive, for which he takes care of projects at a European level, as well as being photoeditor of the collectible books of the Afi author series. His images are part of private, Italian and foreign public collections.
